The Story of PVC

PVC is the acronym for Polyvinylchloride. Throughout the world, PVC is the second plastic matter in volume produced and one of the most ancient material. The first industrial production occurred in 1913, despite its actual commercial development had started in the 1930’s.

The use of the PVC is increasing due to its versatility, durability and high performance level, and, currently, it is an integral part of our day by day. It is not possible to imagine life without the PVC.

The main raw material of the PVC is the sodium chloride (salt), which is present in underground reservoirs (rock salt) and in unlimited amounts at sea. It corresponds to 57% of its composition. The remainder 43% derives from oil products, or, alternatively, from other sources, such as the calcium carbide and sugar cane.

In order to transform the PVC resin into finished products, it is required a mix of addictives that will provide the product with the proper characteristics at each application: bottles, pipes and connections, films, footwear, etc.
